A red letter event in their school calendar, Vagangana, organized by the Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society of Visakha Vidyalaya, continues to be among the topmost debating tournaments in the country. An annual tradition, this prestigious event showcases rhetoric skills of young students representing schools hailing from all parts of the country. The final round complete with the awards ceremony was held on the 18th of March 2016 at the Jeremias Dias Hall at Visakha Vidyalaya. The chief guest of the day was Mr. Ravi Jayawardane, Chairman of Rupavahini Corporation. Bettering the intense preliminary rounds held prior on the 5th and 6th of March, finalists; D.S. Senenayaka College, Colombo and Mahanama College, Colombo competed determinedly, eager to show their colors. Spectators witnessed the masterful talents and exceptional skill of the two teams, following which, Mahanama College emerged victorious.
In addition to the debating competitions, Oratory Speech Competitions were held on the 20th of February at the school premises.
