The Arts and Commerce Day of Visakha Vidyalaya 'Santhulana 2018' was held on Friday the 2nd of March 2018 at the Jeremias Dias Hall with the presence of the Principal Madam Sandamali Aviruppola, distinguish guests, academic staff and the students of the two Arts and Commerce streams.
The Arts and Commerce Day of Visakha Vidyalaya 'Santhulana 2018' was held on Friday the 2nd of March 2018 at the Jeremias Dias Hall with the presence of the Principal Madam Sandamali Aviruppola, distinguish guests, academic staff and the students of the two Arts and Commerce streams.
Santhulana 2018 commenced based on the theme of "Commercialization of Parental Love" with the motive of recognizing the present ongoing situation and combating the defects such as stress and ignorance caused between parents and children.
Prof. Tharindu Dananjaya Weerasinghe who is a Lecturer of Human Resources and Management of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies at University of Kelaniya attended the event as the Chief Guest and the wife of the renowned singer T. M Jayarathne Mrs. Malani Jayalath was also present as the Guest of Honour.
In the 21st century, commercialization has taken over everything from education to emotions and values the society holds. People have got accustomed to expect a financial benefit from everything and everyone which has eventually resulted the moral paralysis in people. As described by Eva Illouz, Professor of Sociology at Hebrew University of Jerusalem capitalism has transformed emotional patterns and the true value of parental love has taken drastic changes throughout time.
The Arts and Commerce day of Visakha Vidyalaya focused on emphasizing the absolute value of Parental love and care and the importance of truly expressing parental love. The forum also discussed on the apt nature of expectations which the parents should have on their children and those children should expect in return.
Several Inter School Competitions were held at the event with the participations of a large number of school such as St. Pauls' Convent, Ananda College, Royal College, Mahanama College, in which Ananda College and Royal College topped as the winners of Santhulana 2018.
