The Ministry of Social and Student Welfare of Visakha Vidyalaya organized a two day excursion
around the Colombo City on the 22nd and 23rd of December 2018 for a set of under privileged
students in Sri Lanka.
The Ministry focusing their center attention on welfare that serves to uplift the lifestyle of students while fulfilling their social needs, undertook the task to give a lifetime opportunity to the under privileged students in rural areas, by offering them the chance to witness the wonders of the Commercial Capital of Sri Lanka.
Though the urban areas keep developing at the speed of light, the social gap that prevails within the rural areas is comparatively vast and cannot at all be disregarded. The two day City Tour covered the most significant locations in Colombo, presenting the young students a lush experience of the City life.
Day One was kicked off with a visit to the National Museum straight after Lunch, and was followed by Racecourse, Arcade and Independent Square where the students were able to walk around and enjoy the scenic beauty the locations offered. After having the evening tea, the group headed back to Visakha Vidyalaya to enjoy the night with a lavish dinner and a musical ‘Paduru’ party. The Visakhians delighted their guests with their talents and the rural students were equally given a stage to showcase their skills and talents.
The second and the last day of the educational excursion began early morning with the blessings of the Gangarama Temple. The students were given an amusing experience to feel like they are living among the stars through their visit to the Planetarium which was their second stop for the day. The next visit to the University of Colombo assured to have given the students an aspiration to excel well in studies in order to make it into the University one day, as the university premises gave a vibrant outlook to the students. Vihara Maha Devi Park was the final destination and the students were able to enjoy themselves in the park that is located at the heart of the city. After a final lunch with their newly made friends at Visakha Vidyalaya, the students dispersed after two wonderful days exploring the City.
The Colombo City Tour presented by the Ministry of Social and Student Welfare of Visakha Vidyalaya was indeed a fun filled experience that created great memories and rendered a fortune of knowledge to the students of rural areas that will be unforgettable.
