Thomas Preparatory School, this year REVO XIV showcased both professional artists and amateur artists alike, the latter through their very own singing competition, “Voice Off”.
One would assume that the Nelum Pokuna Outdoor Theatre coupled with the early monsoonal showers would threaten the numbers but the elements did little to dampen their spirits as an enthusiastic crowd kept coming in, eager to witness the local talents about to grace the stage.
Needless to say, the crowd was rewarded for their resilience as the lineup of acts kept delivering back to back. Highlights of the evening include memorable performances by the highly acclaimed band, Daddy, and a group of guys who began unknown by the majority but ended unforgettable, Magic Box Mixup. A show stopping performance by Sri Lanka’s most accomplished pop duo, Bathiya and Santhush, dishing out a few of the crowd favorites, like “Baila Gamuda Remix Karala” and “Lassana Desak”, was indeed the icing on the cake.
Mirroring the caliber of the professionals, our amateurs did anything but fall short. Voice Off proved to be tough competition in its own light as the singers, representing leading schools in Colombo, gave it their all in each performance. Thiysuri Ranatunga from Ladies College won the crowd’s favor following a captivating cover of Beyonce’s “Halo” and a head-bopping rendition of “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon.
Remarkable music, combined with good food and an electric atmosphere; Revolution of Sounds 2016 turned out to be one amazing night for its audience, who claim that this year’s event surpassed its predecessors, promising the years to come hold bigger things in store.
