D. S. Senanayake College – Colombo, reached its grand 50th year in this February as the school celebrated its golden jubilee, of course in style. Among the many functions organized to celebrate this amazing occasion, 'Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live' topped the list for it was indeed one enchanting evening full of energy, music, colour and rhythm.
Current students of D. S. Senanayake College, Old Senanayakiens’ Music Circle (OSMC) together with the school Old Boys’ Association proudly staged this amazing event on last Sunday, the 5th of February 2017 from 6.30 pm onwards, at D. S. Senanayake College premises, showcasing the unbeatable musical mastery of their own young and old Senanayakiens.
“Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live” has been the first ever outdoor school band show performed by D. S. Senanayake College and things only got “bigger-better and bolder” when a set of the best artists in the country including Lahiru Perera, Chithral Somapala, Bathiya & Santhush and JayaSri, representing a multitude of musical genres ranging from Rock to Indian Classical Shastriya Sangeet, graced the occasion and joined the Senanayakiens in celebrating the grand birthday of their Alma Mater.
The amazing evening was witnessed by a crowd of more than 3000 while it was also streamed live, worldwide so that the Senanayakiens who are overseas and could not make it, don’t miss it completely. The souls of young and old students of the school who physically and virtuallytook part in the event, were swollen with pride and honour when two of their own brothers: Nifal Ibrahim and Navodya Gunasekare were acknowledged as promising guitar and drum players in Sri-Lanka by BNS as well as Lahiru Perera.
At the end of the day it was an amazing collective effort that made the whole school echo in cheering a roars and it was indeed one great birthday celebration.The show however, would never have been such a success if not for the guidance and the smooth execution byYashoda Sandamal Gajanayake –the project chair and also the generous contribution and support given throughout by Susantha Subashan Dissanayake – the OBA president.With everything put together, we are certain that mother D. S. Senanayake was very proud of her sons as she witnessed the success of 'Theewraa - Golden Jubilee Live' on last Sunday.
