Breaking beyond the boundaries of an ordinary Commerce Day, the Commerce Society with the guidance of Principal Mr. R.M.M Rathnayake of the prestigious D. S Senanayake College held 'DS Students' Brand Awards 2016' on 22nd of February 2017 at the BMICH, for the fourth consecutive year. The Media Minister Hon. Gayantha Karunatileka being the Chief Guest ennobled the occasion.

Breaking beyond the boundaries of an ordinary Commerce Day, the Commerce Society with the guidance of Principal Mr.R.M.M Rathnayake of the prestigious D. S Senanayake College held ‘DS Students’ Brand Awards 2016’ on 22nd of February 2017 at the BMICH, for the fourth consecutive year. The Media Minister Hon. Gayantha Karunatileka being the Chief Guest ennobled the occasion.
Walking down the footsteps of its renounced founder Mr. R. I. T Alles, Senanayakians are principled to appreciate effort whenever seen. With its initiation in 2013, ‘DS Students’ Brand Awards’ has not only served as the lone representative for youth opinions, but has also called for steps to appreciate the business organizations contributing to the youth community in the state.
By the results made by taking a survey among 9,000+ students in Colombo district, a aggregate of 23 awards, including 19 brand awards and 4 honorary awards was granted in appreciation.
The highest evolution award at the ceremony “Students’ Brand of the Year” was won by Dialog along with the award for the “Students’ Mobile Network Brand of the Year”.
Four outstanding personals & organizations named Prof.Poojitha Wikramasinghe , Mr.Asanka Samarasekara, Manusath Derana and D.S Theewraa were awarded with Honorary Awards. ‘Students’ most popular child artist’ was awarded to kaveesh Vihanga who played the role of Sooratha Podi Hamuduruwo and People Bank won the Students’ Bank of the year.
Good Food means Good Life. The award ceremony appreciated the Culinary Department by crowning Prima Koththu Mee and Milo as Students’ Food Brand and Beverage Brand of the year. The five-star hotel Kingsbury won “Students’ Hotel of the Year”.
Entertainment was at its finest as the ceremony was vibrating to the top tempo beats of the Theewra crew that amused the audience. “Youth Got Talent” was elected as ‘Students’ Entertainment Program of the Year’ for its elevated performances.
Educations being the passport to the future, leading educational institutes were nominated to be selected by the students. Awards for the Students’ Higher Educational Institute, Professional Educational Institute, Academic Education Institute and Book Publisher were won by NSBM Green University, AAT Sri Lanka, Sakya and Sarasavi Publishers respectively. Sirasa TV’s “Sirasa Pantathalon” was named as the Students’ Educational program of the Year.
The Media’s impact of augmenting the connectivity between the college and the outer world was extremely appreciated by allocating the highest bit of awards within the observance. Students’ TV and FM channel awards were gained by the reputed channels of Derana and Hiru FM while News Provider and Newspaper of the year went to Swarnawahini’s “Live@8” and Lankadeepa. Chathura Alwis was awarded Students’ media Presenter of the year.
Xtream Youth was honored to be presented with “Students’ Photographer of the Year” for the third time following the achievements of 2013 & 2015. The long journey of imprinting picturesque college memories of island-wide schools has been nothing but amazingly remarkable & staggering. It has been a splendid honor to stand by as the Official Photography Partner during the series of events connected with the Golden Jubilee such as Theewra, the official walk- Steps etc.
Celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, it is a well know fact that within a short span the multi-ethnic College of D.S Senanayake has conquered perks of all arenas with overrunning achievements. Despite their accomplishments, the college has rendered the country with scholars of good value & virtues. Xtream Youth with DS alumni in its carder proudly wishes the college to remain among the finest.
