Have any of you ever wondered what it might be like to change the world? Have you ever wanted to be a part of one of the most influential international organizations of the world? Model United Nations is a recreation of the real United Nations and includes all UN etiquette and procedures. Participants play the roles of diplomats representing different member states in various committees which are of both UN and affiliated agencies.

From its humble beginnings in 2005 as a simulation of the SAARC, the conference has grown exponentially. Having been successfully organized for ten consecutive years, Sri Lanka Model United Nations attracts over 1200 school students between the ages of 14-20, of which hundreds are from Foreign schools making SLMUN the most representative youth model UN conference in South Asia.

The 8th annual session of Sri Lanka Model United Nations conference sporting with the theme ‘Dare to Move’ is scheduled to be held on the 14th, 15th and 16th of August 2015, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH)

Sri Lanka Model United Nations provides a platform for students all over Sri Lanka to voice out their opinions regarding various issues that encompass the globe while exercising and cultivating their skills in leadership and diplomacy. We believe a conference of this caliber bears the potential of launching the careers of several diplomats and moreover- gives the youth the opportunity to be actively involved in discussing and attempting to solve prevalent crisis’ around the world. We believe that the eclectic range of committees will encourage participants to take an active role in the drafting of resolutions and their subsequent discussion through cohesive negotiation and diplomatic debate.

Apart from consistently being successful in providing a unique and innovative experience of diplomacy and debate to delegates, SLMUN has managed to harness and channel the energy within our conference into tangible social work through our CSR projects- 'One World' and ‘Diplomatic Sri Lanka Initiative’, as a means of creating future diplomats in the rural and urban areas of the Island. We are jubilant to partner with the 12th Singapore Model United Nations (SMUN) is a conference annually organized by the National University of Singapore Political Science Society that seeks to foster in students an awareness and an interest in international and regional affairs within a globalized society.

We are proud to announce that for the first time in any conference around the world, we will be simulating as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), and that we will be simulating two multi lingual committees (UNESCO and Special Committee on Sri Lankan Development)in English, Sinhala and Tamil languages as per to facilitate the inclusivity and participation of students island wide without any bias.
