The 11th session of Sri Lanka Model United Nations took place on the 31st August, 1st and 2nd September of 2018 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall under the theme of 'Redefining Global Diplomacy'.
SLMUN 2018 as a simulation of the United Nations conference, makes it their paramount responsibility to change the world in identified realms through instigating transformation of patterns of thought. Thus SLMUN has acted as a stimulus in formation of the future minds to raise their voice.
The Opening Ceremony took place on the evening of 31st of August 2018 under the guidance of the Chargé d'affaires and the headship of the Secretary General. The vibrant event was followed by a UNICEF debate session that discussed on finding means that can be adopted for ending violence in schools. Sri Lanka Model United Nations 2018 which was powered by its main sponsor Port City, engaged the next two days in fostering advanced diplomacy within the young delegates.
Over thousand versatile delegates united for three days of intense debate under eight UN committees, that discussed on finding resolutions to the challenges taking over the world at present and those that are yet to occur. The delegates were assigned to the committees of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Human Rights Council, General Assembly Plenary, International Organisation for Migration, UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund), United Nations Environment Programme, World Intellectual Property Organisation and the Security Council.
It was significant to notice that the Secretary General and the Executive Committee of SLMUN 2018, were successful in identifying the dire issues of the present world such as the current challenges faced in the field of IP, issues of Child Prostitution and Trafficking, need for Riot Control in Developing Nations and climate migration and cross-border disaster displacement.
