South Asia Summit on Youth and Human Rights 2014, organized by The Road to Rights Youth led Movement was held from the 25th till the 27th of April at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre & the Sports Ministry. The main initiative of the summit was to host discussions on Human Rights, Human Rights Education as well as development of economical infrastructure to a better evolving community. The 3 day summit provided a much deeper understanding of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights of how and why we should strive to protect and adhere to the declaration adopted by the Nations General Assembly.
Half of the world’s population is under 25. The challenges they face are steep. They are hardest hit by the world’s inequalities and injustices. Too many live in poverty, unable to realize their potential. Too few are gaining the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to find employment in rapidly changing job markets, where the capacity to learn and adapt is essential. (UNESCO,2012). South Asia Summit on Youth and Human Rights 2014 (SASYHR2014) is the second South Asia regional summit and is one of five regional summits that are being held around the world as part of World Educational Tour for Peace 2014 covering from Central & South America, Europe, Africa, South Asia and the United States of America. The World Peace Tour started in the USA January 29, 2014 and will end in Mid May 2014. This summit is co-organized by Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI), The Road to Rights Youth led Movement and supervised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skill Development, Ministry of Mass Media and Information and National Youth Services Council. South Asia Summit on Youth and Human Rights 2014 is also recognized by the World Conference on Youth 2014 which focuses on strengthening inclusive youth participation and partnerships in the development and implementation of the “Beyond-2015” Development Agenda. The summit will focus and host discussions on Human Rights, Human Rights Education as well as development of economical infrastructure to a better evolving community. Bringing in ideas and thoughts from all parts of the world and enabling the young and veteran minds to work under one roof and leap into a sustainable change.
