The launching ceremony of Janashakthi Appathon was held on 13th of August, 2016 at the Majestic City, Colombo 03 from 11.00am onwards.
Mobile apps have now become a necessary part of our lives. People spend hours, using mobile applications to find quick solutions on what they want to know, where they want to go, what they want to eat and so on.

The premier Insurance Company in Sri Lanka, Janashakthi Insurance which is renowned for its innovative practices, recently introduced Janashakthi Appathon Mobile App Challenge, offering a golden opportunity for those who have a potential in mobile app making.
Now, gates are open by Janashakthi for the Sri Lankan Youth, to compete by proposing and developing apps that surely add value to the lives of general public.
The launch of the massive campaign was held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Majestic City, Colombo 03.
The team based competition, powered by the Google Developer Group (GDG), will find the young innovators of people-friendly mobile apps and offer a cash prize of Rs. 1 million for the lucky winners' team, Rs. 200, 000 for the runners up team and Rs. 100, 000 for the remaining three teams.
The launching ceremony of Janashakthi Appathon began with an attractive music play comprised of guitars, saxophones, trumpets and violins that invited people mostly the youth to gather around the launching event on their busy Saturday at the MC.
The flash mob orchestra performance attracted the crowd in the Majestic Building on Saturday morning and they seemed wondering what was the event all about because they could not avoid the music came from the play despite their hectic Saturday plans.
Becoming the first that carried out a media launch in an open area, the Janashakthi Appathon launch made history in Sri Lanka.
The launch of the Janashakthi App Competition was officially done by the Chief Executive Officer of the Janashakthi Insurance PLC, Mr. Jude Fernando.
Speaking on the stage, Mr. Fernando explained the significance of keeping in line with technological methods in human lives and the successful attempt of the Appathon Challenge by the Janashakthi Company as a leading organization which has initiated a number of new strategies to improve their service to the public.
The organizers of the launch of the Janashakthi Appathon Mobile App Challenge gave a chance for those who were present at the launch at the MC to stand a chance to win a 8GB pen driver by a selfie contest.
Selfies taken at the location of the launch were uploaded in Facebook with hashtag #JanashakthiAppathon by the contestants.
Meanwhile, the registration process of the competition was started and registrations can be made via http:/www.janashakthiappathon.lk/.
The massive campaign was supported by the Digital Agency Partner MEC Sri Lanka, the Tech Partner ReadMe.lk., the Online Content Partner Roar.lk and the Photography Partner XtreamYouth.
Following are the components of the Janashakthi Appathon Competition.
The Company's purpose of the competition:
The challenge will encourage Sri Lankan youth to challenge their creativity and practical thinking skills, while utilizing their skills in app development to provide innovative solutions for issues encountered in our everyday lives. The Janashakthi Appathon Challenge:
Over the competition of 3 months, 300 participants in 75 teams that are selected in registration, will work on the inaugural theme ‘Solutions to issues caused by traffic. Only five teams will be selected for the grand finale of the Janashakthi Appathon. The teams should compete from developed ideas and proposals of mobile apps that improve the living of the general public. The mobile applications should be designed for a purpose to support the people.
Conditions:
Each team should be comprised of at least four participants.
The age limit for the participants is between 18 and 30.

2. Mrs. Manindri Bandaranayake - Head of Marketing, Janashakthi Insurance PLC

Monitoring and supervision:
The teams will all be guided and mentored through the entire process by experts from the Information Technology field overlooked by the Google Developer Group (GDG). Prizes:
Winner will get a cash prize of Rs. 1 million; Runners-up will win Rs. 200,000, while the remaining 3 teams will each win Rs. 100,000.
