In Honor of Liberating Sri Lanka on 18th May
Ten years ago on this very date of 18th May, the giant pillars upholding Sri Lanka concluded a 30 year war and freed the country from the deadly terrorist group LTTE.
As the younger generation of our country, we never encountered a terror-free Sri Lanka up until 2009, and the horror of the war blatantly took place in front of our eyes mostly every single day. The Peace and Sovereignty that we have been enjoying throughout the past ten years is solely and completely due to the undying effort and determination of the Tri-forces to free the nation from all terror.
The bravery of the proud lions shook the earth, and as they marched in defense of our motherland, the terrorists had no alternative but to surrender. Far from home and the care of the loved ones, harsh sun heated days and rainy nights without no shade above to shield, experiencing colleagues go down by the hands of the enemy at their very finger tip and bullet after bullet shoveling into the skin; are just a handful, of the adversity the heroes undertook to shield and protect our lives and future.
Their love and compassion transcend the differences within our society from race, religion to political opinions. Breaking the boundaries that divide humankind, their service has always at all times been equally rendered, considering no one by their race or religion but as Sri Lankans and most importantly as human beings.
Ten years later, they are back in action. National Leaders may change and the enemies may anew, but the roars of the lions standing in guard of the country will only amplify at the face of a crisis. They gave up their life protections when they chose ours and as long as their hearts beat, Sri Lanka will always rise from the chaos.
To the heroes of yesteryears and the heroes of today, we bow down in gratitude and appreciation for your admirable service.
