Smile Sri Lanka Christmas Carnival for orphans and street kids was held on the 26th of December 2015 from 1.30pm onwards at Mount Park, Mount Lavinia.
The SMILE Foundation started off in 2002 with a group of 16 year olds taking the initiative to change the lives of underprivileged children living in challenging circumstances. What started off as an after O/L Christmas project has today evolved into an amazing annual initiative under the recently registered NGO 'Smile Foundation Ceylon, 2014'.
The foundation which supports children of all ethnic groups, irrespective of religion and race provides over 2,000 children with education, personal development and the development of skills such as arts, music, dancing and life skills. The children come from Galle, Kurunegela, Piliyandala, Panadura, Vavuniya, Nuwara Eliya and the suburbs of Colombo. The 6th annual Smile Sri Lanka Christmas Carnival for orphans and street kids was held on the 26th of December 2015 from 1.30pm onwards at Mount Park, Mount Lavinia.
Smile Sri Lanka is one of the only NGO's that incur 0% administration costs as all participants involved are on a voluntary basis. In most cases the children would receive more than 55% of donated funds. More than 50% of the event's costs are borne by the organizing team.
