Colours of love and heartbreaks engrossed the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium with A-list songs such as Teri Meri Prem Kahani from Bodyguard, Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, Teri Ore, Bahara, Samjhawan which were presented at a stretch, and the audience embraced all with open arms. Shreya Ghoshal is blessed with a soulful voice that is proficiently capable of raising butterflies in your tummy with her love songs at one moment and bringing an overflow of tears with the sorrowful songs in the next minute. Each song she sang, was not just sung melodiously accorded well with the tunes, but was presented with so much emotions and feelings that the large crowd did not just listen but lived and experienced the song. Every song was like a dream, and the whole array of hearts were won by her entirely.
The night was made possible by the undying effort of The Bollywood Leisure (PVT) LTD together with the sponsors Vogue Jewelers, Jet Airways, Hilton Colombo, Scope Cinema and many more. She kicked off the second half with immortal old hits in Bollywood of mainly the two silver bells of India, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. As highlighted by one of the songs of Lata Mangeshkar that she sang at the show, ‘Lag ja gale ke phir ye haseen raath ho na ho’ invites to embrace this very moment as such a night perhaps will not enliven again on another day. Further songs like ‘Piya tu ab to aaja’ by Asha Bhosle were sung as tribute to the two legends that highly inspired her musical success. The golden hits were followed by a none stop sequence of party music and the melodies of Shreya Ghoshal were quick to change the stadium into a dance floor. The lineup comprising Manwa Laage, Pinga, Mast Mast Do Nain, Nagada Sang Dol, Tu Hai Meri Fantasy, Radha from Student of the Year, Chikni Chameli and a lot more; got the party monsters out of everyone amidst claps, cheers and whistles, and those who lacked a dancing partner surely missed their best friends to compliment some Desi dancing.
The audience entertainingly accompanied her when she sang the famous Sinhala hit ‘Rosa’. As she dedicated the song Raabta to the Sri Lankan audience, it was undeniable manifested that the audience felt a similar connection to the nightingale of the neighbour state.
Every passing moment filled thousand hearts with happiness. The audience was on fire as fireballs of melody ignited after more than a three years wait, once again in the island shores, and as she danced to the beats in the 360⁰ stage, our breath danced along too.
