National Cricketer and the newest Red Bull athlete, Dinesh Chandimal
(DC) launches Red Bull’s first foray into the world of cricket. The Asian
Finals of Red Bull Campus Cricket (RBCC) set to take place from the 25th
to the 28th of April at the CCC grounds.
Colombo, April 8, 2012 – The National Champion University teams of India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka will vie for the prestigious title and the honour of being crowned as the inaugural Red Bull Campus Cricket Champions. This mini Asia Cup will see the teams of India and Pakistan beat all the local University teams to represent their country against the Colombo University team in Sri Lanka.
The Triangular Series will feature a T20 format with each country team being mentored by experienced former cricketers which includes the likes of Moin Khan for Pakistan and Dinesh Mongia for India.
Brendon Kuruppu, the coach of the local team, was excited about the potential of this event. “An event of this magnitude can elevate University level cricket and bridge the gap between school and first class cricket.” Speaking on his association with the event Dinesh Chandimal (DC) went onto to say “Sri Lanka needs young blood to play at the national level, Red Bull and this tournament will help groom a crop of budding talent.” DC further added “Red Bull Campus Cricket is an ideal platform for these youngsters to gain the necessary exposure and experience to play at the highest level”.
