Cricket Fiesta 2016, organized by the Alumini of Postgraduate Institute of Management, was held on the 11th of June at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo 8 (a.k.a The Oval).
The tournament, hosted by one of the topmost management institutions in the island, saw over eight enthusiastic teams, comprising of capable alumni and current MBA scholars alike, battle it out for the coveted championship. Right off the bat, it became apparent that the everyday scholars were indeed all-rounders on the field, displaying impeccable skill with both the leather and willow. However, only one team, adept in all three disciplines of the game, was able to edge their way through the lineup. The championship was awarded to the interestingly named team, “Duckworth Lewis” from the MBA batch of 2015.
Mighty impressed by the sheer talent and dexterity of the participants was the chief guest of the day, former test cricket captain for the Sri Lankan national team and ICC match referee, Deshabandu Roshan Mahanama. A veteran of the game, Mr. Mahanama was a key player for the team in the iconic 1996 Cricket World Cup.
Alive with masterful strokes and flawless deliveries, this fiesta unquestionably left both player and spectator with one memorable day.
